Anglesite
Most of our anglesite comes from the now defunct Tsumeb mine, but occasionally we get a piece or 2 from other locations.
It is a lead sulfate mineral and its chemical formula is PbSO4. It occurs as an oxidation product of galena, which is a primary lead sulfide ore. Anglesite often occurs as prismatic orthorhombic crystals or earthy masses, and is isomorphous with barite and celestine. It contains 74% of lead by mass and therefore has a high specific gravity of 6.3. Its’ colour is generally white or gray with pale yellow streaks. It may be darker gray if other impurities are present.
